Fascinating 🧐! I love the Brazilian bullseye 🎯 stamps! I always thought Brazil was kinda primitive. Since they were the second country to issue postage stamps I’m wrong as can be. Thank You Graham you are absolutely priceless!

Sometimes I watch one of your wonderful videos and think "oh, I want that stamp!" And sometimes I watch a video and get the pleasure of learning about a stamp I already own 😁 in this case, I actually just recently bought one of these first issue Latvian stamps, on a whim. It was cheap and pretty and I didn't have any stamps from Latvia. I had no idea there was a map on the back because I hadn't done anything with it yet besides acknowledge that it came. I'm so excited to do a little write up about this stamp for my collection now 😁😁😁

I got some sealing wax from jetpens and I'm learning about the cancelling process bc they have a little disclaimer that tells you to hand cancel wax sealed envelopes if possible due to the cancelling machines chewing up the wax seals! I didn't know that postage collectors had such an intriguing community (before today, I was mostly interested in calligraphy instruments, but maybe this video will get me into postage!)

These are the kind of stamps that turn me off to stamp collecting.

Loved this one. I added several pages to my album just by moving and labeling stuff I already had. My favorite post marks are the ones that clearly show the origin of a letter or package that someone sent to me. :-)

Thank you so much for this episode! Lots of interesting info, but also you answered a question I was struggling to figure out with my own online searches. I recently acquired a gallon sized bag full of stamps and now have a growing collection of pre-cancels! I've been keeping them together b/c I think they are interesting but had no idea why they were like that. And I've been searching different ways of describing them but with "overprint" as my main keyword. I hadn't thought of "pre-cancels", lol! I appreciate all the research you do and the enjoyable format you present it in 😁

I had an album full of beautiful, expensive, pre WWII French stamps. I was living in La Jolla which is a coastal town in California. The humidity of living near the ocean resulted in my beautiful French stamps stuck to the album. I was speechless when one day I opened the album and seeing my 1927 STRASBOURG EXHIBITION SHEET stuck to the album and then further investigation found out many more mint stamps ended up the same.

Hello Discovered recent your amazing stamp channel, by my "new" (after over 40 years deepest sleep...) interest in stamps. Really it is (was...) the best stamp channel - because you invest so much work, you know to entertain in a good intelligent way, really know about good video editing (very seldom by other collectors to be honest) , "love" to the hobby and history, not afraid about travel cost and stress and research - and most important: take you watchers and subscribers seriously. Too bad, you canceled the channel, but fully understandable for everyone who know how much work a good video is to produce. Even if your channel is (was...) the one and only big quality channel in our hobby - 35000 subscribers are for a youtubechannel in general quite less, special for the quality of your videos. To bad that an unedited, cheap smartphone video of "your" cat , "your cute" child, "dump" car drivers (always the other never youself...) or mumble about politicians get easy much more like, views and subscribers... low demand => lot of viewers quality, thinking along is necessary, interacting, a bit more challenging topics => few, but faithful viewers - sadly the system "UA-cam" with the like and views "thinking" don't work that way... Nevertheless: Hope one time in future to see your (new) nice videos again - perhaps another topic in history, collecting, video producing, "normal" traveling,...(not this style nobody with a day job, bills,a house, and family never can do and pay, but also not "Hawaii" and Florida or for my part of the world Mallorca, Rome, London, Canaries island,...with Millions of other tourists and only beach, "the Eifel tower", London Bridge,.. and eating) And perhaps - again stamps - if you are in the mood to do so it has not to be frequent, only if you really want

I’m lucky enough to have an unused black jack that I just got from a collection of a former stamp collector, Chuck, who is in his 90s.

I need to study this. People have sent letters forever. So, before the Penny Black what did they do?

Fascinating. I have acted as a consultant to a well known expert committee and so would suggest that expert knowledge may help. The puzzling aspect for me is the incorrect rate to the USA. Although this was sent at the very beginning of postage stamps, sending of unstamped (bearing) letters to America have a much longer history. So it should have had the correct rate. If a specialist can convincingly explain away this anomaly then it probably is genuine.
